My parents and I went out of town last month to fetch my grandma. She is now 90 years old, all we wanted is for her to stay in our house here in the city. Well anyway while we were there, I’ve noticed that they have this bark on their kitchen and I asked what that is for. Eventually my grandma told me that it is a cinnamon bark. I swear I never really known that cinnamon is harvested like that. They prepared food with cinnamon; I find it spicy, although the taste of the food was so delish. Because of my enthusiasm to know what cinnamon is, I’ve consulted some reading materials and found out that this spice has something worth eating aside from being spicy.
Sprinkling cinnamon on your morning cereal, toast or coffee may give you more than just a flavor boost: A study in the journal Diabetes Care shows that a healthy sprinkling of cinnamon daily could improve cholesterol and glucose levels. In fact, sixty adults with type-2 diabetes added 1 to 6 grams of cinnamon to their normal diets each day. After 40 days, those who ate the spice reduced their glucose levels by 18 percent to 29 percent and their LDL (“bad”) cholesterol by 7 percent to 27 percent. No wonder my grandma uses it daily. She is old, but she constantly monitors her health. Good heaven she is still very much healthy.
