This post is dedicated to the Easter Celebration of the Christian world. Our early memories of Easter are finding colorful hidden eggs, once we find it we are rewarded with goodies and treats. But growing old we find the true meaning of it where in we commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion.
According to the tales St. Bede claimed a festival of “Teutonic” goddess of spring and fertility. The festival was celebrated on the day of vernal equinox, the rabbits and colorful eggs are associated with this feast. The Ester rabbit symbolized fertility while the bright colored eggs symbolized optimism of spring.
The Official Easter Date
Roman Emperor Constantine the Great convoked that Easter should be celebrated throughout the empire on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox. If the full moon occurred on a Sunday coinciding with the Passover festival, Easter was then held on the following Sunday.
In 1923 Easter was formally proposed to be set on a fixed date in the Holy See. Even the British Parliament proposed that the Easter to be commemorated on the first Sunday after the second Saturday in April.
Up to now Easter remains a movable feast, it could be March or April. Happy Easter!
