Recently there was a chaos that erupted because of the Salmonella strain found in a jar of peanut butter.
This product is very irresistible because it tastes so good. Children and adult happen to like peanut butter so it is a very important product in the market. But because of the findings of the Heath Bureau, most peanut butter stacked in the malls was pulled out. They did this because they want to test all peanut butter brands for salmonella.
What are the nutritional values of peanut/nuts anyway? Studies have shown that consuming nuts on a regular basis can lower cholesterol levels, reduce heart disease and aid people with type-2 diabetes. Nuts is rich in Omega 3 fatty acid which is know to reduce the risk of heart disease. The unsaturated fats found in nuts can also improve blood cholesterol levels. Other beneficial heart healthy nutrients found in nuts include vitamins, potassium, copper, magnesium, Vitamin E, fiber, arginine (an amino acid that helps relaxes the blood vessels) and sterols to help lower blood cholesterol.
So there you have it, the recent findings on peanut butter should caution us in eating it. And sad to say we also looses one beneficial food that might help us in combating heart diseases. If malls really run out of peanut butter, then we need to find an alternative to peanut butter, it could be homemade peanut butter instead or just eating other nut products out there that are free form Salmonella
