You know the drill for losing weight: Eat less, exercise more. But for flatter abs-and to drop a size-you may get extra benefits from these specific eating strategies:
Concentrate on whole grains. especially oats and barley. The soluble fiber in these grains slows down the entry of sugars and fats in the bloodstream, which helps your body, respond to insulin. Obese adults who ate a diet rich in whole grains for 12 weeks lost more ab fat than those who ate refined grains, a Penn State study reported.
Sip green tea. Japanese men and women with abdominal obesity who drank a special catechin-enriched green tea daily for three months reduced their waist size as well as their overall weight, compared to men and women who didn’t have the hot drink. And in another study last year, overweight people who exercised for three hours every week lost 8 percent more ab fat by adding a green tea extract to their regimen. In the studies, volunteers got 583 and 625 mg of catechins, respectively-equivalent to drinking between four and six cups of green tea a day.
