My brother who is now in his senior year in high school has a project in their science school fair. He consults me most of the time because I have undergone several thesis way back in college. So their project is all about “The health benefits of irvingia gabonensis,” this plant that originated in Africa and has been subject to research here in the United States because it has many beneficial effects. At first I was a bit reluctant to help because personally I have never known this plant; I have not even seen this plant ever. But when my brother secured this type of plant or fruit I was immediately got the interest to help. I just wondered where did my brother and his colleague got this plant when it was not yet introduced in the US and US government is strict upon the importation of fruits. Well anyway as long as they have secured the specimen it is time to do some research. Their project is a follow-up study of another project conducted in UCLC “The laxative effect of irvingia gabonensis”. So what I do is guide them in the research flow and we will be discussing further the project next week so I hope I can share what I learned in college to my brother.
