BBC: Older women who eat dark chocolate once or twice a week could be lowering their risk of heart failure, says a US study.

It found those eating chocolate once or twice a week cut the risk of developing heart failure by a third, but those eating it every day did not benefit.

The Boston study, in a journal of the American Heart Association, looked at nearly 32,000 Swedish women aged between 48 and 83 over nine years.

Dieticians say eating chocolate too often can be damaging and unhealthy.

The study notes that one or two 19 to 30 gram servings of dark chocolate a week led to a 32% reduction in heart failure risk.

This fell to 26% when one to three servings a month were eaten.

But those who ate chocolate every day did not appear to reduce their risk of heart failure at all.

The researchers conclude the protective effect of eating chocolate reduces as more or less is eaten than the optimum one to two servings a week.

‘Flavanoids’

Too much chocolate is unhealthy because it contains high levels of sugar and fat which can make people put on weight, the researchers say.

But chocolate also contains high concentration of compounds called flavonoids which can lower blood pressure and protect against heart disease, previous studies have found.

The researchers behind this study say this is the first time long-term effects related specifically to heart failure have been shown.

Dr Murray Mittleman is study leader and director of the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Unit at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston.

He said: “You can’t ignore that chocolate is a relatively calorie-dense food and large amounts of habitual consumption is going to raise your risks for weight gain.

“But if you’re going to have a treat, dark chocolate is probably a good choice, as long as it’s in moderation,” Dr Mittleman said.

Cocoa content

Differences in chocolate quality will affect the study’s implications, the authors say. Higher cocoa content is associated with greater heart benefits.

Although the chocolate consumed by the Swedish women in the study was milk chocolate, it contained a high concentration of cocoa solids – about 30%.

This is equivalent to dark chocolate by UK standards.

Dark chocolate can contain as much as 75% cocoa while standard milk chocolate may have 25% or less cocoa.

Victoria Taylor, senior dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, said the study showed the importance of finding the right balance in our diets.

“Before you rip open those sweet treats, remember that whilst antioxidants in chocolate may be helpful to your heart, they can also be found in fruit and veg – foods which don’t come with the saturated fat and high calories that chocolate does,” she said.

Chinese do believe about the good luck brought about by koi. These are fish that originally came from China and they are brightly colored. Anyway I have learned this belief way back in high school when my friend who has Asian ancestry invited some of us in their house. He toured us in their compound; they have built a pond instead of a pool. I noticed that they do have gold fish and as I analyzed they were not really gold fish because they stouter and bigger as compared to what I have seen in aquariums. He then told me those are koi, according to him these is one of the most treasured fish by the Chinese because it brings good luck. His father regularly maintains the pond as a hobby. I also noticed that they have koi pond supplies on the edge of the pond signifying that they really have the passion to care for these fish. I have written this post because I happen to passed by on a pet shop where they sell shiny fish same as the koi.

I was invited by my friend to attend a seminar about investing on gold, according to my friend the seminar will be conducted by the United States Gold Bureau. Well I never made it to the seminar, but my friend did so he told me a lot about what he had learned. Accordingly this agency is a source of precious metals like gold, silver in coins, bullion or ingots.

With United States Gold Bureau you can purchase silver, gold or other precious metals and coins for immediate personal delivery or arrange for convenient and safe storage at an independent bank or depository.

As an investment product, silver is available in coin or ingot form. Ingots are generally silver ingots of pure bullion cast in a convenient size and shape. Coins have a currency value or they are actually defined as ingots.

There may never be a better time for buying silver bullion than right now. World demand for silver now exceeds annual production, and has every year since 1990. Above ground stockpiles of silver bullion are low, shrinking rapidly and approaching zero.

As an investment product, gold is available in coin or ingot form. Ingots are generally gold ingots of pure bullion cast in a convenient size and shape. Coins have a currency value or they are actually defined as ingots.

I got really bored in the hotel today, even if there is an internet connection I felt like I still needed to breathe fresh air. So I then decided to take a walk in the downtown, okay I was warned by my co employees that this place is actually packed with goons and gangster, but nonetheless I still took the chance to see the beauty of the city. This also serves as a good exercise for me because lately I have never attended my gym session due to my hectic schedule. I just noticed that I really sweat a lot and my body feel like so energetic. I then found this convenience store, bought bottled water and headed back to my hotel. I estimated that I have walked four kilometers so I think is fair enough to burn some of my excess fats and at the same time get rid of the boredom I felt.

During the warmer summer months, mosquitoes can add a dash of misery to the pleasure of being outdoors. They love to show up at picnics, backyard barbecues, or most any place that we like to be outside. But the tips provided here can help you enjoy the summer without the pesky insects.
First of all, remove any standing water. Remove any object that can catch rainwater, including empty buckets, plastic containers, pot holes, etc.

Replace the water in your birdbath or water garden frequently. While these lawn and garden fixtures provide pleasure for you and your feathered friends, they also can be a haven for mosquitoes.

Turn unused wheelbarrows upside down.

Boats need to be covered with a tarp when not in use. Small boats can simply be turned upside down.

Discarded tires are a favorite breeding ground for mosquitoes. Take them to your local recycling center.

Clogged gutters are another popular breeding ground for mosquitoes. Keep them clean and ensure that all rainwater drains away easily.

Ensure that your screens are functional and free of holes.

Low areas in your lawn can catch rainwater and create a temporary “pond”. Fill in these low spots if you can.

Drill drainage holes in the bottom of your outdoor garbage containers to allow any water to drain away. And don’t forget to keep them covered to prevent the accumulation of rainwater in the first place.

Wading pools should be kept in your garage or turned upside down when they’re not being used.

If you have a small fish pond or water garden, stock it with goldfish or minnows. Fish love to dine on mosquito larvae (and they’re enjoyable to look at too!).

Service your swimming pool frequently and maintain the proper level of chlorination.

Adult mosquitoes like to have some shade during hot days. Remove weeds from your lawn and the surrounding area and don’t allow your grass to get too high.

Wear long sleeved shirts and long pants. And be sure to apply insect repellant whenever you venture outdoors.

Early morning and dusk are the times of day when mosquitoes are most active so take extra precautions during these times.

Protect baby playpens & carriages with mosquito netting.

I just realized a while ago that my friend really have the talent in making people beautiful. Before, all I know was that she was a product of beauty school in Wichita. Though she now works in the bank still she possesses that talent in beautifying people. Going back this morning she noticed that my skin tone was uneven so she told me to use aloe Vera and ginseng extract to revitalize my skin. So she handed me a preparation of these extracts and told me to apply it on my skin. I research the web about this school and this is what they have to say.

“We are excited to bring our unique approach to cosmetology education to new markets,” said Hayes Batson, Regency’s president and CEO. “Our campuses mirror upscale salons and provide an exceptional education that benefits our students, the salon community, and the public.” As part of their training, students provide high-quality, discounted salon services to the public under expert faculty supervision.

Cashew is a bean shaped nut that grows on a tropical evergreen tree. The casher tree is related to poison ivy and the shell of the cashew nuts contains an irritating poison. People who touch the shell sometimes develop skin rashes/blisters; this is the reason why cashew nuts are always sold shelled and dried. Even the so-called “raw” cashews have actually been roasted to remove all the poison/toxic resin from the nuts. Cashew nuts has a high content of monounsaturated fats, copper and magnesium.

Here are some other health benefits of cashew nuts:

Good body builder

Cashew has no cholesterol.

Cashew helps maintain healthy gums and teeth.

Cashew is an energizing food.

Cashew contains healthy monounsaturated fat that promotes good cardiovascular health, because monounsaturated fats reduce high triglyceride levels which are associated with increased risk for heart disease.

Cashew is rich in antioxidants that help in the elimination of free radicals that may cause some cancer.

Magnesium works with calcium to support healthy muscles and bones in the body. It also helps promote normal sleep patterns in menopausal women.

Cashew nuts have a high energy density and high amount of dietary fiber, both have been attributed to a beneficial effect on weight management, but only when eaten in moderation

Cashew’s has high copper content is vital in energy production, greater flexibility in blood vessels, bones and joints.

Cashew nut consumption helps the body utilize iron, eliminate free radicals, develop bone and connective tissue, and produce the skin and hair pigment melanin.
